![]() Acupressure for Youthful Skinby Shannon Larsen — April 2, 2008Ever find it curious that you don't get wrinkles on your arms, legs, or stomach? Unlike your body's muscles, which are inserted into bone, your facial muscles do not have a way of being pulled back and become "stuck" over time. This adhesion in the muscle prevents blood flow to the area, and this is what we know as a wrinkle. So the following question would be, how do you "unstuck" the muscle and regain youth? This is called facial acupressure, and it works as a preventive measure and as damage control. Pressing with two firm fingers, feel the tissue at your eyebrows and in between, forehead, eye sockets, and jaw line. If you're in you're twenties, you might feel a knot or hard spot in one of those areas. If you're a mature woman, you will most definitely come across this, if not a few times. These knots become tender when you put pressure on them and that's exactly what you want to do. This is a stuck muscle. This is the reason why you have a wrinkle. Ten seconds or more of firm pressing, to the point of being uncomfortable, will release and relax this muscle. Anywhere that you have bone on your face, there is a potentially stuck muscle. Whether you make massaging your face a part of your daily commute to work, or while you watch TV, these simple measures will preserve your youthful appearance. Another trick to relax your facial muscles is to take a warm bath with Epsom Salt. This is the same recommendation as when you are sore from working out because it releases the lactic acid build up in the muscles that is causing them to clench. Keep in mind that you should be in the tub for approximately 20 minutes - no less, no more. Osmosis (water permeating your skin) takes 20 minutes, but if you stay in longer than that, you will actually lose water from your body and become dehydrated.
