Don't Do It

by WiredBerries Editors — May 3, 2008

We've all made beauty mistakes - some of us do so on a daily basis. But there are some blunders that can be undone. Real Simple offers tips for correcting common beauty mishaps:

  • Over-conditioned hair - To avoid wasting product and suffering through limp, greasy-looking locks, try applying conditioner starting at your ears all the way to the ends. You will gain volume and won't have to wash your hair as often.
  • Blotchy foundation from rushed application - Give yourself at least 60 seconds for moisturizer to sink in before applying foundation. If you're in a rush, blot with a tissue between moisturizer and foundation.
  • Perfume stains and stinky fabric fibers - Perfume is meant to be applied to skin where your body heat helps release the scent. Rather than stain your clothes or risk the scent being altered by fabric fibers, lightly dab or spray it onto the knees, wrists, base of throat, and behind the earlobes before you get dressed.
  • Overplucked brows - If you stand too close to the mirror or use a mirror that's too small, you lose perspective and can easily overpluck. Find a large mirror near a window, then step back a few feet to survey your face. Move closer to the mirror and begin tweezing. Step back after every few hairs to check the symmetry of your brows.
  • Over-medicated blemishes - We've all done it. You break out and zap the zit with drying potion. Then you apply more. And more. Pretty soon you're facing red, burning, irritated, and peeling skin. A better plan is to apply the acne cream and then use every bit of self-control to leave it alone.
