![]() It's All in the Timingby Nicholas Allen — October 27, 2007The life of a freelance writer is such that you have to take your opportunities where you can find them, and you don't always get to pick and choose the timing. A great opportunity has come my way--one which, unfortunately, won't leave me much time for blogging. So, as much of a blast as writing this blog has been, I'm afraid the time has come to pull the plug. I've been a writer for a long time, primarily on the subject of film, but writing about the joys and perils of being a single guy in New York has given me the opportunity to think about my relationships and--aw, hell, I'll just say it: my "feelings"--in a way that single guys in New York aren't usually in the habit of doing. I've gotten some great advice and support from you, gentle readers, over the past few months. And I've learned that the one thing no guy with a smidgen of conscience should ever do, under any circumstances, is say he'll call and then not do so. Perhaps the timing is for the best, as Patricia will be moving away soon enough, and I'm not sure how quickly I'll be back on the dating market again. Oh, I'll be back out there (maybe I'll even see some of you there), but I have a feeling it'll be a little while before I can date another woman without, unfairly, comparing her to the glory that is, was, and always will be my Patti. Lest you think I'm ending this blog on a downbeat note, I'll add that my company is flying me out for a week in LA, followed by a few days in Hawaii, at the end of November. They've said I can invite a guest on the Hawaiian leg of the trip. Patricia, as you'll remember, is being transferred to LA at the end of this month. It may not be the perfect solution in terms of how to manage a relationship that has unexpectedly become a long-distance relationship--but still, it's definitely something to look forward to...
What people are saying...
Aww! Thats sad that you'll be leaving wiredberries! I always look forward to reading your blog! All the best in your new opportunity and good luck with the long-distance relationship! It can work if you want it to! Some seriously BAD timing....I was just starting to read you and Gwen regularly and then you're both leaving! WTF??? Them's just jokes. Congratulations on your new job and best of luck to you and Patricia! Comment on this Post
