![]() It's All in the Follow Throughby Benjamin Todd — December 21, 2007Is it really so hard to do what you say you're going to do? I'm past the whole "saying you'll call and then disappear" thing; that move is for rookies. I'm talking about a little quality I like to call 'follow through.' Not the verb (He's got a great follow through on his free throws), the adjective (You know, I could have really liked him, but he had no follow through). As in, calling, emailing, or even just SHOWING UP WITHIN AN HOUR OF OUR SET MEETING TIME! I'm sick of "I'm sorry." I don't care if it's to me, through me, or you/me. There's just no excuse for repeatedly not following through OR putting up with it. The worst offenders obviously fall into the not-that-into-you category, but when they have that one good excuse (I'm at a new job, the hours are long; I was arrested, my roommates wouldn't let me_____) for everything, it's hard to hold anything against them. It's not a beginning dating thing, it's not a long-term relationship thing, and it's not even a flakey thing. It's just a matter of importance. If you can't make me more important, sorry. If he can't make you more important than his other friend/his job/his dog/his truck, then when is he ever going to make you the MOST important thing in his life? Please, ladies, if you make plans, then go through with them, even if you don't want to. And I'll publicly shame the next guy I hear who admits to bailing on some poor girl because he didn't have the balls to be honest with her. Read all of Benjamin Todd's posts to The Dating Life.
