![]() Pass the Peace Pipeby Benjamin Todd — December 5, 2007I love first dates. Love 'em. I don't get nervous unless I'm taking out someone I've known for a LONG time and had feelings for since the stone age. The whole idea of going out for drinks and getting to know someone is fantastic to me. And if my date isn't entertained by me, then I usually am. So I'm having a good time no matter what. So, I pick up Shannon for our first hang out--we'd met at a restaurant a week earlier and seemed to hit it off, so I was excited. Why shouldn't I be, right? I wasn't wrong, there was chemistry, and she was great, funny, interesting, with a fantastic sense of humor. In fact, she laughed at almost everything I said...and what can I say? I'm a guy, I ate it up. I knew before we had our second drink that there would be a second date. There was just something about her that gave me confidence, and she made me feel like a million bucks. But as I pulled up in front of her place, and she began to fumble around in her purse for her keys, the "uh-oh moment" moment happened; her stash fell out of her bag. Apparently, I was only THAT funny for a reason, she was stoned. I called her on her 'minor possession with intent to smoke' and she came clean not thinking it was a problem. Note: I don't judge what you do in your home behind closed doors. But was it really necessary to enter a different state of mind before our first date? I said goodnight and tried not to let it bother me, but I couldn't just let it go. Maybe I was being ridiculous. We HAD gone out for drinks; one drug is okay but another is not? Absolutely. Call me hypocritical, but I just don't think that first dates are the best time to be chasing the dragon or rollin' up a fatty. It just seems to me that you should wait until the fourth or fifth date to get high before I pick you up, and make sure it's okay with me first. Or maybe I'm just insane in the membrane.
