I vary depending on the activity—typically a banana before cardio, some sort of energy bar before weights, and a cup of coffee before yoga. It’s all about finding the right balance between energized and sated. The experts are split on the food-for-fitness fuel debate. A recent Washington Post article took a look at the subject. Here are a few highlights:

my workout is usually a 1 hour athletic walk. i like to drink red gatorade before the walk (it's delicious) - am i better off with plain old water? I totally agree. I don't eat a very heavy lunch and after working all day, I have to eat before I go to the gym or I just can't do as much. But I do keep it low fat and instead try to have mostly protein. Great article. Hi Adam. Hate to put a damper on your delicious Gatorade, but you're probably better off with water for a one-hour walk. Gatorade and other sports drinks use sugar, potassium and sodium to hydrate and energize - great if you're sweating profusely and exercising at a high intensity for over an hour, but probably unnecessary for moderate workouts that run an hour or less. Eight ounces of Gatorade nets you 50 calories and 14 grams of sugar. I vote stick to water and spend the calories elsewhere Thanks for the helpful tip. Now I know why I tend to feel faint when working out first thing in the morning without a small snack. juce of half a lemon with a teaspoonful of honey in luke warm water before workout is best and safest Someone recently recommended Arnica Montana 200c to me for bruising, swelling and muscle ache after a fall.
