Eat Like You're 25

by Valerie Nahmad — August 2, 2007

Our twenties aren't all happy hour margaritas and late-night pizza--or at least they shouldn't be. Fitness Magazine tackles the issue with its age-specific nutritional guidelines. Fit Sugar passes along the highlights:

  • Power up--Protein is the building block of muscle--don't skimp on it. Missed meals and dieting can often lead to insufficient amounts.
  • Put up the potassium--Potassium is an essential mineral that helps the heart and other muscles function properly. The USDA reports that the majority of women in their 20s eat less than 50 percent of the recommended 4200 mg. Eat your five servings of fruits and veggies a day and you're golden.
  • Fatten up--Omega-2 fatty acids can boost serotonin levels, which can help avoid depression (a common problem among 20-somethings). Find it in walnuts, flax seeds, salmon, and other cold-water fatty fish
