Fly Fit

by Valerie Nahmad — September 25, 2007

Security, delays, pint-sized toiletries--travel is very stressful these days. AOL Body aims to put the fun--or at least the fitness--back into flying with 10 tips for safer, healthier flights. Here are a few highlights:

  • Get moving--Regular jaunts through the cabin will reduce your risk for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and reduce foot and ankle swelling.
  • Stay hydrated--Cabin air is extremely dry (usually around 10 to 20 percent humidity) and can dry out your skin, eyes, throat, and nasal passages. Drink lots of water and lay off the soda, coffee, and alcohol.
  • Wash up--Wash hands before boarding, when food is served, and after bathroom use to minimize your risk of disease. Antibacterial wipes are good too.
