The Magic Calorie Number

by Valerie Nahmad — September 4, 2007

One hundred seems to be the magic calorie number these days. All of our favorite treats (Twinkies, Oreos, Nutter Butters--need we say more?) have been broken down into diet-friendly 100-calorie packs. Health Magazine helps us take matters into our own hands this month with 15 easy ways to cut calories. Here are a few of our favorites:

  • Skip the crackers and pair cheese with one cup of apple slices
  • Choose fresh spring rolls over fried spring rolls
  • Eat chocolate sorbet instead of chocolate ice cream
  • Skip the crust on the apple pie
  • Use a 6-inch flour tortilla instead of a 10-inch one in your next burrito
  • Sub a whole wheat English muffin for your morning bagel
  • Top pancakes with 1/4 cup applesauce instead of syrup
  • Leave 10 French fries on your plate

Have any calorie-cutting tricks to share?

What people are saying...

100 doesn't sound like much, but a month of cutting calorie corners will net you 3,000 calories, almost a full pound with virtually no sacrifice.
