Vend Your Way Healthy

by Valerie Nahmad — September 6, 2007

We've all worked enough jobs to know 4pm munchies are inevitable. Doesn't matter what you eat for breakfast or lunch, come late afternoon your stomach always seems to scream vending machine. Make the most of the munchies with Fitness Magazine's best and worst vending machine picks.

The Best:

  • Planters Sunflower Kernels
  • Baked Lays
  • Snyder's of Hanover Mini Pretzels
  • Smartfood Reduced-Fat Popcorn
  • Peanut M&M's
  • Fig Newtons
  • Nature Valley Granola Bar, Oats & Honey
  • Planters Honey Roasted Peanuts
  • Quaker Chewy Low-Fat Granola Bar, Chocolate Chunk

The Worst:

  • Drake's Apple Fruit Pie
  • Austin Cheese Crackers with Cheddar Cheese
  • Pop-Tarts Frosted Strawberry
  • Doritos
  • Skittles
  • Cheez-It Baked Snack Crackers
  • Ruffles Original
  • Cheetos Crunchy
  • Twix
  • 3 Musketeers

Salty, bite-sized pretzels are my favorite vending snack--what's yours?

What people are saying...

Vending machines are increasingly offering healthy options (trail mix, granola bars, etc), but it's still best to bring your own snacks. Store some hummus & carrots in the fridge or drop a mini box of cereal in your purse.
