Work Your Way Thin

by Valerie Nahmad — September 15, 2007

Tragic news--the adult version of the freshman fifteen is the office eleven. Turns out sitting behind a desk all day isn't the best thing for weight loss. MSN offers up seven tips for losing weight on the job:

  • Take the stairs. AskMen.com reports that climbing six flights of stairs a day for a full year can help you shed up to 18 pounds.
  • Get off a stop early. Hop off the bus a stop early or skip it altogether.
  • Rethink the lunch break. Eat at your desk then use your hour for a quick workout or long walk.
  • Join the softball league. Burn calories while building camaraderie.
  • Drink more water. Bottled water will help keep you fuller and away from the vending machine.
  • Bring your own lunch.
  • Fidget. Every little bit of motion helps burn calories--a Mayo Clinic study found that tapping your toes can help burn 72 calories per 8-hour work day.

What people are saying...

It's not revolutionary, but skipping the elevator and heading for the stairs is one of the best things you can do at the office. You'll work your heart, tone your legs and build your bones.
