Almost everyone knows that drinking water is good for us, but we don't always remember to do so during the day. I did some quick research on benefits of water. Multiple sources list similar reasons:

  • Glow.Water gives us the moisture our body needs, including providing elasticity to our skin, keeping it supple and healthy.
  • All systems go. Our internal processes, such as metabolism and digestion, need water to function properly.
  • Toxins be gone. Water flushes toxins from our bodies, easing the burden on our kidneys and liver.
  • Climate control. Our well-being depends on keeping our body temperatures within a narrow range, and water helps regulate this.
  • Turned on. Water keeps us hydrated, allowing us to stay energized and alert.

There is a formula for calculating how much water you need everyday, but I find it too tedious and mathematical. Instead, check out three easy tips from CNN.com's Health Library:

  • Drink a glass of water with each meal and between each meal
  • Hydrate before, during, and after exercise
  • Substitute sparkling water for alcoholic drinks at social gatherings

Keeping a bottle or glass of water handy at all times helps me remember to stay hydrated. Sometimes if I feel fancy, I add slices of lemon or cucumber and pretend I am drinking water at a spa instead of in front of my computer.

Go on, get up and stretch your legs. While you're at it, grab a glass of water.
