Energize

by Cheng-Ling Chen — November 19, 2007

Today is one of those ho-hum days. It's cold and dreary out, and only past four, the sky is already darkening. I am low on energy. Not feeling inspired about much, I surf the net absent-mindedly looking for natural, non-caffeinated ways for a little pick-me-up. Here are a few good ones I found plus a couple I threw in:

  • For an energy boost, eat a snack. Skip the sugary stuff and opt for an apple or granola mixed in yogurt.
  • Play some music, something uplifting with a good beat.
  • Take a power nap. Rather than fumbling about in a sleepy state, relax for a 15 to 20 minute shut-eye. Wake up refreshed and ready to go again.
  • Stand up and do a couple full body yoga stretches, like some Sun Salutations or Standing Forward Bends. Getting the blood circulation going can give you the boost you need.
  • Go for a walk around the block to get some fresh air and clear your head.
  • If you're at home, take a shower. Alternate hot and cold water to wake up.
  • Do something nice for yourself. Get yourself flowers or go out for a light dinner.
  • Call up a friend and make some fun plans. Schedule something you can look forward to.

As Sister Corita Kent once said, "Love the moment and the energy of the moment will spread beyond all boundaries."
