Happy Thanksgiving!

by Cheng-Ling Chen — November 22, 2007

Today I give thanks for my well-being, for my better half, and for the opportunities I have to make each day count. As I get ready for a grand Thanksgiving dinner with family, I am thinking of ways not to overeat this year. It's tricky when there is so much delicious food, and I am caught in the festive spirit, surrounded by people I love. Below are some tips from NetNutritionist.com that I am going to try to remember for later. Just some food for thought you might like to bring with you to your Thanksgiving party:

  • Find some time to exercise before the festivities begin. Go for a brisk walk, a short run, or a bike ride. Burn some calories and relieve stress. The workout will give you a boost of endorphins, putting you in a good mood just in time for the party. Alternatively, go for a walk after the meal.
  • Don't skip breakfast or lunch before the big dinner.
  • Eat something light beforehand or drink a good amount of water.
  • Limit alcoholic and soda intake as these are high in calories.
  • Before sitting down, have a plan of attack for how much you will eat. Stick to it.
  • Wear your skinny jeans. They'll keep you honest.
  • Take small portions for your plate and skip seconds.
  • I hope you have a wonderful day giving thanks and spending time with loved ones. Remember that you don't need to stuff yourself silly to do either.
