Fitness ResolutionsFitness Resolutions

Tomorrow is the New Year, and you are ready to turn over a new leaf. Make a resolution that will work for you and your health. Before setting your fitness goals, take a little time to reflect. Ask yourself:

  • Did you make a fitness resolution last year? What was it?
  • Were you able to stay true to it? Why or why not?
  • What will help you stay committed to your new resolution?

Now that you've taken stock of where you've been, think about where you want to go. Make a smart plan for 2008:

  • Write down all your reasons to exercise. Don't just think about them. Actually put the words down somewhere, so you can refer to them from time to time.
  • Incorporate a workout schedule into your calendar so that it will be treated as a priority.
  • Find one or two (or more!) physical activities that you enjoy. You don't have to do something you don't like simply because it is a traditional or popular form of exercise. Be creative! Register for a dance class, take up boot camp, or join a softball team. For more ideas, see " Get Moving ".
  • Be realistic and reasonable with yourself. Take smalls steps and plan on increasing your fitness activities over time. Set milestones and work towards them.
  • Ask someone to join you. Support each other and let the company make it more fun.
  • Know that there will be challenging days. If life gets in the way of your resolutions, don't give up altogether. Do a small workout, which is better than nothing at all.

Be well and happy New Year!
