Yoga Groove

by Cheng-Ling Chen — December 13, 2007

I have been paying attention to how music affects my yoga practice. I find that when I need to slow down and focus, meditative music has a deeper impact than conventional music. The music is effective if I find myself noticing it without getting distracted by it. Exotic instruments and foreign lyrics often help me stay present. Their intriguing sounds settle and unsettle me at the same time, triggering an impulse to push the boundaries while remaining calm.

I am still discovering the types of meditative music that work to quiet my mind. I thought I would share a few of my finds since they are not easily heard on mainstream radio. You might like them as well, especially for those moments when you want to unwind or get some clarity.
