![]() Sit and Stare at the Wallby WiredBerries Editors — February 29, 2008Meditation is a great way to improve your well-being and fitness. The ability to listen to your mind and body will help you gain a new level of awareness and improve your workouts and daily life. There are many different ways to meditate, and trying to find one that is right for you can be intimidating. Consider trying an exercise as simple as just breathing. Sit in a comfortable place and position where you're not likely to be disturbed. Make sure you are warm and the lighting is not too bright. Close your eyes and relax. Pull your attention to your breath and note how it feels when you inhale and then again as you exhale. Follow each breath until you are fully relaxed, then let your mind wander. As the day's thoughts pass through, let them drift by - don't stop to analyze and dwell, simply let them float through your mind. If you find yourself holding on to a thought, simply return focus to your breathing. As thoughts pass, you may experience moments when you're not thinking of anything. These moments provide inner stillness and give your mind and body a chance to reach balance. Try meditating for 15 or 20 minutes a day and see how much more you feel like yourself at your best.
