Triangle Pose

by WiredBerries Editors — March 19, 2008

Looking for a really good stretch that is also a challenge? Consider Triangle Pose:

  • Start by standing with your feet about hip-distance apart, arms at your sides, feet rooted.
  • Bend at the waist, and reach to put your palms on the floor by your feet.
  • Take your right foot back, so that you are standing in a lunge with your left leg bent and hands below your shoulders.
  • As you turn your right foot to a 45-degree angle, place your left hand next to your left foot, and straighten your left leg. With your left palm on the floor, reach toward the sky with your right hand. Both legs should be strongly planted and straight (forming a v-shape), and arms should be extended in either direction.
  • Gently look up toward the right hand.
  • Breathe and feel the stretch and lengthening as well as the strength of your body as you hold the pose.
  • Repeat on the other side.

Triangle Pose stretches and strengthens the thighs, knees, ankles, hips, groins, hamstrings, calves, shoulders, chest, and spine. It is reputed to stimulate the abdominal organs, relieve stress, improve digestion, help with anxiety, and relieve backache. This pose will make you feel powerful and grounded. Enjoy!
