![]() We've Got the Beatby Leslie Aronson — April 18, 2008Staying motivated through a workout can be challenging, but one of the best ways I've found to power through a rough patch or keep up the pace is music. Although this may seem obvious to anyone who has been working out for a while, it's a necessary part of my workout routine. But I find that I need to change up the music every now and again - just like the routine itself, what I listen to can get repetitive, boring, and downright...routine. And when it reaches the point where I'm not charged up by my music choices, I'm less likely to push myself further and enjoy the workout. Everyone has his or her own personal preferences on music, so ultimately you'll have to find what works for you, but some of my past favorites have included the soundtrack to the movie "Amélie," Maroon 5's "Songs About Jane" (don't laugh, you know it's a catchy album), and anything from Modest Mouse. I find classical music and most slower-paced instrumentals (think Explosions in the Sky) don't cut it because I can't zone out to the music as easily as something more upbeat and...verbal. But again, it's all about personal preference. If Bach or Beethoven put you in the mood to run, then follow that instinct. Play around, find that perfect track that gets your adrenaline pumping, and rock out. Comment on this Post
