![]() Spring Clean Yourselfby Leslie Aronson — May 9, 2008Spring cleaning isn't just for your house. Consider cleansing your insides as well. De-toxing or cleansing doesn't have to be a scary process involving mysterious mixtures and extreme self-denial. Although the more intense cleanses undoubtedly have their benefits, they're not for everyone. As Body + Soul suggests, try room-temperature water with lemon. Taken first thing in the morning, this simple beverage stimulates digestion and helps to flush toxins from your body. Regular exercise (anything that makes you sweat a bit - it doesn't even have to be intense) helps rid your body of excess built-up junk (plus it speeds up digestion, so it gets rid of it quicker). Or try a soak in the tub. Add a handful of Epsom salts, 10 drops of lavender essential oil, and a half cup of baking soda. According to Body + Soul, "this combo draws out toxins, lowers stress-related hormones, and balances your pH levels." Spring may also be a good time for you to reassess other toxin-generating areas of your life: what kind of cleansers do you use in your home and are they environmentally and/or human friendly? What foods are you eating? Can you identify all the ingredients listed? If not, you may be ingesting some funky stuff - if you can't pronounce it, chances are you shouldn't be eating it. While you're in the throws of paying minute detail to your home, don't forget yourself in the process. Comment on this Post
