Weight-Loss Wonder

by Leslie Aronson — May 10, 2008

Journaling is often touted as an excellent emotional release - you can say what you mean with complete honesty and abandon without fear of repercussion or recrimination. You can often get at the root of a problem more readily this way than just stewing over it in your brain. And this is true of more than just emotional and/or personal issues. Keeping a food journal is an effective way to aid your weight-loss goals. A food journal keeps you accountable for everything you consume in a day - even down to those stray peanuts at the bar or that half piece of birthday cake at the office. Along with keeping track of exactly what you're eating, you can keep tabs on how you feel when you eat - before and after. The journal can be as simple or as detailed as you choose to make it, but it can be enlightening to look back and see how you were feeling before you ate the cake and after. Patterns will emerge and you can more closely tap into the foods that make you feel good and those that don't. Plus, when you have all the calories you've consumed in a day written out for you to see, you will probably want to reevaluate what you're choosing to eat. Keeping a journal keeps you mindful and aware of what you're putting in your body and that is a step in the right direction when trying to lose weight.
