Think You Can't Buy Bliss?

by WiredBerries Editors — November 2, 2007

Always on the frugal side, I was reluctant to try a 4-handed massage, but when I found out I could get one at a local massage school for around $50, I decided to give it a go.

WOW. I've gotten many massages in my lifetime from both experienced professionals and from massage therapists in training, but NOTHING has ever compared to this. There I was, resting on the table with my eyes closed while thinking to myself, "They say you can't by happiness, but I swear I just did." The only think I can compare it to is what I would imagine Nirvana to feel like--pure, peaceful, blissfulness.

Why four hands is so much better than two, I really can't say. Don't get me wrong, I love them both, but there's just something about getting the tension rubbed out of your neck and back while also having your feet and legs rubbed that just makes every stress in your life temporarily melt away and then some. I'll admit, the feeling is fleeting once you have to get back to "life," but it does leave you feeling a lot more relaxed over the next 24 hours, not to mention that massage has been linked to a wide range of health benefits.

If you're having an especially stressful week, I'd recommend scheduling a 4-handed massage. It's great for those who have the money, but not the time. A 4-handed massage is a great way to maximize your schedule. But if you're on a budget, you can always see if there's a nearby massage school like I did, where the prices are more than reasonable. If your experience is anything like mine--you won't regret it! If you try it out, let us know how it goes, or if you have any past experiences, thoughts or tips on 4-handed massage (or any other massage technique you've enjoyed), please share with the rest of us.
