United States Ranks Lowest in Preventable Deaths

by WiredBerries Editors — January 16, 2008

According to the journal Health Affairs, the United Sates ranked worst in preventable deaths due to treatable conditions out of 19 industrialized nations. According to researchers Ellen Nolte and Martin McKee of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, if the United States could reduce amenable mortality to the average rate achieved in the three top-performing countries, there would have been 101,000 fewer deaths per year. Overseas travel never looked so good -- France, Japan, and Australian were the top finishers.
