![]() Basically, You Need to Be Aloneby Maria F. Aldana — March 27, 2008For some, being alone makes them feel like they have no friends, no life, and no responsibilities. Staying busy surrounded by other people gives them a sense of purpose. Although a fear of solitude is common, with practice, it is something can become a beneficial part of your daily life. Alone time is a basic need that shouldn't be neglected. Taking some time for yourself can open you up to new hobbies and help you build a stronger relationship with yourself and others. According to psychiatrist T. Byram Karasu, M.D., in The Art of Serenity, neglecting time for yourself "is the cause of many manifestations of psychological and physiological distress and being with other people for long periods of time, no matter how loving, wonderful and interesting they may be, interferes with one's biopsychological rhythm." Being comfortable and confident about spending time with yourself is a great step towards a healthier life. Comment on this Post
