Best Foods for Dieters

by WiredBerries Editors — March 11, 2008

Trying to turn over a new leaf for Spring? Rather than starve yourself only to regain later, consider making small changes in your diet to help ease your way to a better, more fit you. WebMD offers a list of the best foods for those who want to lose weight and maintain great health:

  • Low-fat and fat-free dairy products such as skim milk and nonfat yogurt -- Laughing Cow light cheese has only 35 calories per individually wrapped wedge, and Yoplait Fiber One nonfat yogurt combines yogurt and crunchy cereal for a fiber boost and only 80 calories per 4 oz. cup.

  • Flavored mustards and vinegars -- Try honey, tarragon, ginger, garlic, wasabi, or Dijon mustards, or balsamic, wine, herb, cider, fruit-flavored or, sherry vinegars. Use them in place of oil, mayonnaise, or butter in recipes.

  • Water is still the best drink, but for those times when you need a little something, try flavored waters, exotic teas, and sparkling water.

  • Cereal -- Research shows that people who eat breakfast control their weight better than those who skip the morning meal. Start your day the healthy way with a bowl of whole-grain cereal (top it with fruit and low-fat dairy for extra nutrition). Look for cereals with fiber and protein and not too much sugar, like oatmeal, Kashi Go Lean, and shredded wheat.

What people are saying...

Hi, there is a great post! I have been planning for a diet program since last Decemeber. However, it is always easier said than done.

Thank you for this simple diet plan that I could follow. :)
