Accessorize

by Maria F. Aldana — April 22, 2008

Looking for a way to perk up your place for Spring? Accessorize! The easiest way to accessorize your home is with lighting, accent pillows, artwork, plants, and books. Start by walking into a room in your home with a clear mindset and try to think of the mood you would like to capture when being in this room. Next, ask yourself "What is my main task in this room?" Consider simple tips when jazzing up your space:

  • Lighting makes a tremendous difference in a space. It changes the dynamic and feeling of the room. Use bright lights in an office or workspace to boost productivity, and lower lighting to create a sense of peace.
  • Consider the color scheme - bright colors rev up the energy level while milder tones help create a sense of tranquility.
  • Determine your display approach and make sure you add personal touches with photographs or sentimental items. The Victorian approach is "More is better" while the Japanese approach is "Less is More."
  • Varying shapes, texture, and color with picture frames, vases, and candles can fill negative space on areas such as a mantel or table top.

The key to accessorizing is having fun and letting your personality shine through!
