The Romance of Snail Mail

by Maria F. Aldana — April 23, 2008

As I was reading through a box of old letters from high school and college, it made me realize that an email or text message can never beat the good ol' classic handwritten letter. The tactile experience of opening each envelope with that same joy I felt when I first received it. I looked at the different stamps and analyzed each person's handwriting styles. Some of the letters even had old photographs. Reading those old letters made me appreciate the friendships I have now and the way some of my friends shaped my life and personality today. Although I don't keep in touch with all of them, they will always be a part of my life through these letters.

So every now and then, step away from your Blackberry, skip the email, and send friends and family a truly unique and thoughtful gesture - a real, true letter.
