Fresh Flowers!

by WiredBerries Editors — May 7, 2008

Spring has sprung and yards and markets are overflowing with beautiful bouquets. Enjoy their lovely scent longer by following these tips to keep those beauties fresh and sweet:

  • Put a penny in the water. Copper helps preserve the water from yeasts and fungi.
  • Take an aspirin - actually, give one to your bouquet. This acid helps kill bacteria.
  • After you cut the stems, place the bouquet in cold water; warm water dehydrates flowers.
  • Recut the stems every few days.
  • Remove all foliage below the water line.
  • Ensure that the water line goes no higher on the stems than 6 inches or so.

Keep your farmer's market investment fresh and enjoy the first beauties of Spring!
