Handy Woman

by Maria F. Aldana — May 25, 2008

Sure, you store shoes in your oven and your sink has been leaking since you moved it, but that doesn't mean you can't shape up into a handy woman. To start, create a small area (a drawer or even a box will suffice) to store a few key tools. A simple toolkit filled with these home-improvement goodies will ensure you can easily handle any fix-it emergency: super glue, wood glue, sandpaper, assortment of nails, tape (electrical, masking, duct) as well as the following basics:

  • Screwdrivers (6 total)--3 sizes of slotted (standard) and 3 sizes of Phillips-head
  • Awl
  • Claw Hammer--16 oz.
  • Adjustable wrenches (2)--Small and medium
  • Pliers (3)--Slip joint, tongue and groove long-handled pliers, needle nose pliers
  • Level
  • Utility knife
  • Retractable, metal tape measure
  • Small all-purpose saw
  • Safety goggles
  • Strap wrench
  • Plastic zip ties

Plus, with the money you save on handy man fees, you can buy another cute pair of pumps that fit perfectly in your oven!
