Reconnect with Your Childhood

by Leslie Aronson — July 22, 2008

Whatever happened to playing? Remember when you were little and you'd ask your friend to come over and "play"? Any number of activities fell within the range of "playing," but usually there was a concentration on imagination and make-believe (at least for me). And while it makes sense that "real life" often interferes with our sense of fun and ability to let loose with imaginative abandon, there is something to be said for reclaiming our ability to play. Of course, our grown up visions of playing are distinctly different from those of our childhood (I think we'd all feel a little goofy calling up a friend to come over and play) but the spirit behind it can still be the same and is, I would say, essential. Keeping a light-hearted sense of play behind any activity not only makes the activity more fun (I'm thinking of work, specifically) but it keeps you young at heart as well. Undoubtedly, this is easier said than done, but finding ways to keep yourself entertained, whether at work or not, can help restore and maintain that fun sense of play we used to revel in.
