Help Yourself to Good Health

by Deborah English — November 16, 2007

When it comes to our ability to restore our own health, we are incredibly fortunate to be living in the high-tech 21st century. What I am referring to is the amazing world of communications, specifically, the Internet. At last, we have a place to go for answers. There is a lot of information-sifting involved; however, with a bit of cross-reference checking, accurate information versus half-formed, possibly biased, personal and professional opinion becomes obvious. And this is where your journey to excellent health can begin.

Five years ago I wasn't feeling too good. I had a nasty smoking habit, was stressed to the max, and exhausted most of the time. And my doctor wasn't much help with suggestions like..."take this drug, that antibiotic..." and so on. The thing is I realized that professionals' broad-spectrum knowledge-base is valuable, but sometimes we must step up and take responsibility for our own health - which is exactly what I did. In the quest to heal myself, I made the switch from "passive" to "active" - meaning, I became actively involved in my own healing.

This is what it takes:

  • Knowledge: Get onto Google. Diligently search for information.
  • Commitment: Desire with your whole self to get well.
  • An Open Mind: Just be open to new information.
  • Action: That's the bit where you have to do stuff like actually stop smoking, cut down the wine intake, eat super-healthy food, jog, join a yoga class, and whatever else it takes.
  • Patience: This is a biggie too but sometimes things take way longer than you would ever imagine.
  • Self-Visualization: Visualize yourself glowing with health. This practice is invaluable.

Today I understand my body (and psyche!) better than ever. I am fit and healthy, and still get to enjoy a glass of vino - or two, and cake! If you have healed yourself - or are in the process of healing yourself, I would love to hear from you.
