Spirulina: Natures Perfect Food?

by Deborah English — January 18, 2008

When you look at the nutritional profile of the tiny Spirulina plant, you might believe it to be the perfect food. Spirulina contains an incredibly rich spectrum of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and trace elements including selenium, zinc, Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12 and E, manganese, and copper. It is a "complete protein" containing all 5 essential amino acids plus 13 more! What's more, Spirulina is the world's richest whole food source of iron, gamma linolenic acid (GLA), chlorophyll, phycocyanin, and beta-carotene. But most importantly, Spirulina's rich bounty of nutrients is easily absorbed and utilized by the human body!

Sometimes it's very difficult to eat the full spectrum of vitamins, minerals, and other trace elements offered by organic produce. As well, over-busy schedules, work, family commitments, and just the stresses of every day life can zap us of nutrients, leaving us feeling too tired to enjoy our recreation and relaxation time.

Spirulina has been used as a dietary supplement for decades. Thousands of people attest to its positive effects upon their wellbeing, energy, moods, and stress levels. It has proven itself more than a fad food supplement - in fact, it is better than just a supplement, Spirulina is a whole food!

If you want to take Spirulina to increase your energy levels and wellbeing, be careful to choose a high-quality Spirulina product. Cheaper versions of Spirulina are sometimes packed out with fillers, binders, and additives. Speak to a knowledgeable person at your local health store.
