![]() You Are What You Eatby Molly Niendorf — October 27, 2008This week I'll look at some of the most common ingredients in the foods we eat every day. Some of you may be highly particular about the foods you put in your body. Others may venture the junk route every once in a while. As for me, I eat fairly healthy on a regular basis. I choose whole grains and opt for salad, when possible. But, truth be told, I'm a snacker. And I know the foods I'm snacking on contain preservatives and some sneaky, unhealthy ingredients. I'll look at some of the pros and cons of the ingredients we knowingly (and unknowingly) put in our bodies. If you believe the old adage, "You are what you eat," then you better be informed about the foods you're eating. Certainly, some of us can't afford or don't choose to eat a completely organic, unprocessed diet. For some of us, it's just not realistic. But we can cut corners where possible, and we can search for foods that contain more healthful benefits. At least we'll be more aware of our choices and able to select organic products that meet our lifestyle. If you take away anything from my columns this week, it should be this: Read food labels! No more mindless eating. (I keep reminding myself of that one, as well!) Comment on this Post
