Environmentally-Friendly Gift-Wrap Options

by WiredBerries Editors — October 4, 2007

Feel guilty buying paper that will be torn and then dumped in the trash? Consider the following alternatives to disposable gift wrap offered by DIY Life:

  • Re-purposed paper--Brown paper bags, magazine pages, your old Biology notes that you kept for no reason whatsoever...
  • Gift boxes from re-purposed cardboard
  • Fabric gift bags--If you know your way around a sewing machine, you could try your hand at making your own fabric gift bags.
  • Fabric CD case--This also requires a little bit of sewing skill, but if you're up to it, the possibilities are endless. CDs might also be going the way of the dinosaur, but video games, DVDs and books could all get their own custom fabric case.
  • Fabric wrap--In the spirit of re-using, you might want to save this option for your crafty pals who'll definitely make use of a random piece of fabric after they've opened their gift.

What people are saying...

An decorated dishtowel or cloth napkin (some are available at dollar stores) makes an attractive wrapping for a small gift, especially so for a gift of homemade food from your own kitchen.

You can get plain dishtowels and decorate them yourself with washable fabric paints or dyes. Use them to line a basket you will fill with goodies.
