![]() Beauty Is Only Skin Deepby WiredBerries Editors — January 10, 2008With all the recent news about lead in lipstick and the danger of parabens, the cosmetics department has become a bit scary. To be sure you're not poisoning your body through your lip gloss or moisturizer, check out Skin Deep. Skin Deep is a safety guide to cosmetics and personal care products brought to you by researchers at the Environmental Working Group. The guide pairs ingredients in nearly 25,000 products against 50 definitive toxicity and regulatory databases, making it the largest integrated data resource of its kind. Why did a small nonprofit take on such a big project? Because the FDA doesn't require companies to test their own products for safety. Scary but true! Take responsibility for your own health by searching the database for the products you often use - perhaps you'll be inspired to find more natural, and safer, beauty products. Comment on this Post
