Business that Can "B" Responsible

by WiredBerries Editors — January 8, 2008

Exhausted from trying to determine which companies are truly socially and environmentally responsible? A new nonprofit organization called B Lab is hoping to address this challenge by creating a set of strict standards to protect companies and consumers that seek to work for the greater good.

What are B Corporations? B Corporations are a new type of corporation that are purpose-driven and create benefit for all stakeholders, not just shareholders. These organizations are unlike traditional responsible businesses because they:

  • Meet comprehensive and transparent social and environmental performance standards.
  • Institutionalize stakeholder interests.
  • Build collective voice though the power of a unifying brand.

Hopefully, this type of movement will help us all be smarter consumers!
