Earth Hour 2008

by Maria F. Aldana — March 26, 2008

Australia is known for its vast land, beautiful beaches, and sunny weather, but they are also the country that launched an energy conservation event called Earth Hour. This year, America will participate in Earth Hour, which is also being promoted here in the States as Lights Out America. The movement started in Sydney in March 2007 and reduced the city's energy consumption by 10.2 percent for 1 hour. Earth Hour has turned into a global movement and cities all over the world will participate. To participate, on March 29, 2008 from 8:00 until 9:00 PM, turn off your lights for 1 hour. To do even more, try one of these extra energy conserving ideas:

  • Turn off all of your 'standby' electronics
  • Turn off the one light that you use the most
  • Turn off the television
  • Replace your lights with energy efficient bulbs
