How to Green Your Dorm Room

by Katie Ryder — September 19, 2008

'Tis the season for all the new collegiates to move into dorm rooms, essentially your home for the next 9 months. That's why it's important to make your living space as green as possible. Here are a few ways to do just that:

  • Buy a reusable water bottle and a thermos. This is the best way to ensure as little waste as possible. Instead of throwing away paper cups and plastic bottles, you'll have your own personalized-with-stickers bottle and thermos. Just think about the discounts you get at cafes for having your own container!
  • Use power strips to plug in all your electronics instead of plugging them all into the wall. And make sure to unplug the entire power strip when you aren't using electricity.
  • Get some low-maintenance plants to improve air quality and aesthetics in your dorm. If you get a spider plant or cactus, you can forget to water them for a week with no consequences.
