Love in the Outdoors

by Laurie Wells — July 23, 2007

When most people think of camping or hiking or spending time in nature, sexy is generally not the first word that comes to mind. In fact, playing word association with my girlfriends, I asked the first word they thought of when I said "camping." The answers ranged from dirt to body odor, but not one of them spurted out romance. They're missing out - some of my best amorous moments have happened outdoors.

Tips for Al Fresco Romance:

  • There's always good ol' fashioned skinny dipping. Nothing gets the blood flowing like a nude dive into freezing water. Plus, it gives you a chance to check out the physique of your fellow swimmer.
  • A moonlit hike is one of the best excuses to stay close to your hiking partner. A rustle in the trees around you has the same effect as the heart-stopping moment in a scary movie - what better reason to grab hold of a strong bicep?
  • An easy tried-and-true setup for making the moves is a sunset picnic. The wine, food, and fresh air create the perfect setting for a summer tryst. It's all the better when you hike a bit to a slightly remote spot.
  • One of the best ways to light the romantic flame is to light an actual fire. Cuddle up in a blanket sized for two, sip a good scotch, and stare dreamily into the flames.
  • And any boy scout will stake his honor on the fact that it's a good idea to zip two sleeping bags together, for warmth, of course.

So take advantage of the warm weather, leave your inhibitions indoors, and surprise your favorite lumberjack with an outing meant for two.
