Arctic Monkeys "Favourite Worst Nightmare"

by Gwen McManus — May 14, 2007

"Arctic Monkeys' '06 debut set "Whatever People Say I am, That's What I'm Not" was a world phenomenon -- the fastest-selling debut record ever, winner of major awards and according to Billboard "one of those rare albums with enormous impact culturally and commercially. Following up such an album has done in older heads than theirs. But this is a sophomore stroll in the park, with the Monkeys staying true to their original sonic blueprint while never shirking an opportunity to show off their newfound sophistication." My favorite tracks are the bass and guitar of "Fluorescent Adolescent" and "Do Me a Favor," which Amazon's Andrew Bartlett describes as going "wonderfully haywire from tumbling rhythm, clear-guitar, and fluid narrative to a cresting blast of guitars--big and brawny and borne from the merely tumultuous, like the band itself." I've linked to the Rhapsody full-length tracks as always.

John Mayer Live "Clarity"

Don't miss this classic John Mayer video performing "Clarity" live. Mayer’s song-writing is brilliant, and his guitar playing equals that of a Joe Satriani or Eric Clapton.

Michael Buble “Call Me Irresponsible”

"With lead single "Everything" the career of handsome this crooner set. This is a totally delightful album with traditional jazz arrangements of pop classics "Wonderful Tonight", "Me and Mrs. Jones", "The Best is Yet to Come" and more nicely his passionate delivery that never crosses the line into melodrama. In addition to "Everything" the best track is his own lovelorn ballad, "Lost.”
