A Great Way to End a Lazy Summer Weekend

by Laura Donnelly — August 22, 2007

Summertime means lots of houseguests. We remember to have lemonade and iced tea for daytime, sparkling white and rose wines for evenings, but how about those Sunday brunches?

A great way to end a lazy weekend at the beach or in the woods is a Sunday morning Bloody Mary. Add your own twist to this recipe and make it your signature house drink. Sometimes I make this with Clamato juice and add a pickled string bean instead of celery stalk.

Sunday Morning Bloody Marys
Makes 6 drinks

2 large celery stalks, plus additional smaller stalks for serving
1 and 1/2 Tablespoons prepared horseradish (more, if you’re like me)
1/3 cup lemon juice
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon celery salt
A few dashes of Tabasco sauce
1 can (46 oz.) tomato juice
2 cups vodka

1. Cut the celery into large chunks. Puree celery in food processor. Add horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, celery salt, and Tabasco. Puree again.

2. Pour into pitcher and add tomato juice and vodka. Stir well, taste for seasoning. Pour over ice and garnish with extra celery stalks.
