"To retrieve lost items such as socks from behind dryers and washing machines or a contact lens dropped on the carpet," writes Jackie Valerius of Stillwater, MN, "attach a nylon stocking over the end of the vacuum hose. The suction will pick up the missing item, but the stocking will prevent it from going into the canister."
