De-Stinking the Disposal

Over time, garbage disposals can build up a smelly residue from bacteria in stuck bits of food. Clara Bowman of San Rafael, CA, suggests giving the contraption something nicer to chew on. Drop orange, lemon, lime, or grapefruit peels (no seeds, please) down the hatch, run hot water, and then flip the switch. The citrus-y scents will last for days.
