Migraine Relief

by WiredBerries Editors — May 1, 2007

If you suffer from migraine headaches, you might want to try a small quantity of powdered or freshly grated ginger to keep pain and nausea at bay. In a small study, Danish researchers discovered that ginger can stave off impending migraines without the side of effects of some drugs. It seems that ginger short-circuits the action of inflammation-causing prostaglandins in the brain. So when you feel a migraine coming on, try 1/3 teaspoon of fresh or powdered ginger, or make a tea by steeping a teaspoon of grated root. For more on the healing properties of this flavorful root, see our feature on ginger.
